1. The Velá de Santa Ana
If you choose the month of July to visit the city of Guadalquivir, an unmissable experience would be to see the festival of Velá de Santa Ana. This festival is celebrated in Betis Street, at the central Triana district, and takes place between 21st and 26th of July. During the day, there are many activities for children,(some of them very refreshing indeed)and in the evening, the little ones take their animated verbenas to the local kitchen.
2. Plaza de España
This is a famous landmark that should be included in your list of must-visit places. The Plaza de España in Seville is one of the most picturesque buildings in Spain due to its vastness, uniqueness and setting. The intricate design of this architectural building is almost impossible to re-create and, if you are visiting from another part of the country, it would be unforgivable not to take a photo of the colourful tiled provincial alcoves (there are two other similar plazas located in Canary Islands and Tenerife that share the same name).
3. Night Music at the Alcázar
Between June and September, from Monday to Saturday, just before it gets dark outside and with a relatively intimate setting, the rustic gardens of the Alcázar are the venues for concerts of almost every genre. It is mandatory to purchase tickets in advance, although a few last minute seats can still be available, if you’re lucky.
4. Shows in the Monastery of La Cartuja
Somewhat less known than the previous activities, the concerts and shows in general at the Monastery of La Cartuja can also help you spend an unforgettable time in the city. The calendar of events is renewed periodically and there is always an available show during the summer months.
5. Horse-drawn Carriage Tour
This is another typical activity that shouldn’t be missed on your first visit to Seville. The horse-drawn carriage tours begin at the Plaza de la Constitución and other pick up points in the urban centre. These tours are a great way to get closer to the top monuments of the city. The Bullring of Maestranza, the Torre del Oro or the former Tobacco Factory are some of the points of interest that the carriages pass through.
6. Tasting Menu for Two … or More
An idea for couples (also for groups and families, depending on their budget) is to enjoy a tasting menu in one of the many restaurants that offer this service in the most central and emblematic streets of the city. Of course, quality doesn’t always mean high prices, since there are very appealing options starting from 25 euros.
7. Beer Tasting
Another activity that usually arouses the interest of groups of friends who come to the city is to experience beer tasting. Several breweries offer this possibility – which should be booked well in advance – and they include guided tours of their facilities. This is a great alternative to beating the heat and spending a relaxed time in good company.
8. From Torre del Oro to Sanlúcar de Barrameda
Seville is inland, but it’s not very far from the Andalusian coast. The Guadalquivir River is the 2nd longest river in Spain and the only navigable one in the entire country. It is possible to take a cruise between the Andalusian capital and Sanlúcar de Barrameda, which is located on the coast of Cádiz. Depending on the tour option you choose, you might even be able to enjoy an aperitif during your trip.
9. Immerse yourself in the Seville Aquarium
Water is the best way to beat the high temperatures, and only a few places allow you to immerse yourself in the ocean like in the Aquarium of Seville. Throughout the year, this huge aquarium offers outreach activities for children and families to learn about marine life and have fun.
10. Beat the Heatwave at Agua Mágica
Do you like to dive into the water in an exciting way? The Agua Mágica water park guarantees a day of fun and laughter with family or friends with slides, wave pools and even an artificial beach for those who miss lying on the sand.
All the above ideas share a single requirement; choosing a well-located accommodation that guarantees maximum flexibility for travellers. Hostel Urban Sevilla is a conveniently-located hostel just ten minutes walk from the cathedral that will provide you with everything you need to enjoy your holiday in Seville.
