«The rain in Seville is wonderful.» This sentence was intended to help Eliza improve her pronunciation in one of the most memorable scenes of My Fair Lady. Yes, we already know that the original phrase in English did not mention the Andalusian capital as it was about Spain. But is it not true that few cities experience rain quite like Seville? December is one of the best months to check out this city, especially if you choose some of the following unique activities to take part in.

In search of «The Gold of Klimt»
Gustav Klimt may not be a very well-known symbolic painter, but only few people can say that they’ve never seen his works. The Viennese artist has portrayed feminine sensuality and enveloped her with an intense ornamental load of marked golden details (hence the name of the sample) and geometric shapes. A series of exhibitions from this artist and pictorial traditions can be enjoyed at the Pabellón de la Navegación until December 15th. It is advisable to purchase tickets in advance but they can also be collected at the box office.
The Nativity Fair, a Christmas classic
Can you think of any activities that are more relevant to the month of December than visiting a fair entirely dedicated to the traditional Nativity figures? That is what awaits you in the 26th edition of the Nativity Fair of Seville (Fray Ceferino González Street), less than fifteen minutes walk from the Urban Sevilla Hostel. Organised by the Association of Merchants of Bethlehem of Seville (ACOBE), the Fair will be open until December 23rd, so that any visitor wishing to complete their festive shopping with unique pieces can take part. Of course, it is also possible to visit this fair just to discover the beauty of these miniature figures.
The ice rink for the most daring
Another tradition that always returns to Seville around this time of the year is the ice rink. There are actually several venues that can be found in different parts of the city but we are referring to the one located in the Zona Este Shopping Centre. This ice skating rink will open its doors to the public on Friday, November 22nd. This skating rink offers more than 500 sqm of ice and a fairly affordable entry fee for this type of venue. By the way, if you are in Seville on the opening day, do not miss this venue’s exciting ice skating show starting at 12:00 (you can go from the Central Sevilla Hostel to the shopping centre with bus number 27).
Children’s Month in the Cartuja Box Auditorium
The Cartuja Box is an outstanding cultural venue in Seville. We are not saying that there are no other alternatives but the range of shows, concerts and programmes offered by this venue is certainly difficult to match. In the coming weeks, the Cartuja Box agenda will be filled with lots of activities to please all audiences, especially the little ones. «This is how Jerez sings at Christmas», «Bubbles», «Puss in Boots: the Musical», «Alice in Wonderland» and «The Magic Flute: First Opera» are some of the top shows to enjoy with family.
A visit with history
Although this isn’t a proper activity, it can be included with any visit to the city. It is well known that the monumental Plaza de España is one of the greatest charms of Seville. If you are visiting the city of Guadalquivir on December 6th, which is Constitution Day, you may find it interesting to visit the popular square mural that commemorates the approval of the first constitution in the history of Spain. We are of course referring to Cádiz, which recreates the famous canvas by Salvador de Viniegra on the Constitution of 1812.
Concerts for all tastes
Seville has one of the largest concert offers in the whole of Spain and December will be no exception. Among other groups and artists, visitors can enjoy performances from Bryan Adams (December 5th, Palacio de los Deportes de Sevilla), Miguel Poveda (December 13th, Fibes Auditorium) and Shinova (December 13th, Sala Malandar). Another highlight is the Rhapsody Of Queen concert, a tribute band that will perform at the Fibes Auditorium on December 6th.
Seville FeST 2019
The Festival of Performing Arts in Seville will take place between November 28th and December 10th in different stages of the Andalusian capital (Sala Cero Theatre, Fundición Theatre Sevilla, Centro TNT, Espacio Santa Clara …). The planned agenda includes all imaginable genres and there are great discounts for families and pensioners.
