The St. Petersburg Ballet says farewell to Christmas
The first three days of the year will be the final performances from St. Petersburg Ballet, which has brought its magic to Seville during Christmas. These three days will be dedicated to one of Tchaikovsky’s most notable works, Swan Lake, which is ideal for a romantic or family night out. The Russian ballet will perform at the Cartuja Centre on Wednesday, January 1st at 7:00 p.m., while on Thursday and Friday the show will begin at 8:00 p.m.
Kooza: Circus of the Sun returns to Seville
Another great entertainment company that will be returning to Seville is the Circus of the Sun. Actually, the Canadian firm is already in the city, since it is currently performing its latest Corteo show. From January 15th, those who visit Seville can enjoy the implausible pirouettes of the artists from this unique circus in the name of Kooza. This is the show that takes the audience back to the company’s beginning. The show organisers have promised the audiences of Madrid and Seville thrilling performances by Kooza’s dancers and acrobats who will have everyone on the edge of their seats. Check it out at the Charco de la Pava, in Triana.
Enjoy the shops in town centre
Hostel Central Sevilla and Hostel Urban Sevilla boast an exceptional location in the centre of the Hispanic city. This is why one of the most appealing activities in January is to take a stroll through some of the most emblematic streets of the city and shop without the hustle and bustle of Christmas. Shopping streets, such as Sierpes, Tetuán and Velázquez are a must visit. These shops also participate in the traditional January sales so you are bound to find a bargain or two.
Flamenco fashion, more current than ever
January is the month when the flamenco fashion season premieres, which, far from surrendering to nostalgia, reminds us of the current Seville traditional clothing, which is no stranger to innovation and modern design. The first major act of the season will be the 8th edition of the We Love Flamenco catwalk, which will start its famous parades between January 14th and 19th in the majestic Royal Hall of the Alfonso XIII Hotel, next to the Real Alcázar.
The Game of Thrones Tour
Whether you were a fan of the legendary HBO series, Game of Thrones, or you are one of those people who preferred to read the book from George RR Martin, you will not be able to resist re-living part of the Game of Thrones universe in such a unique venue as the Real Alcazar of Seville. You will recall that the producers of the series chose several Sevillian locations to record different scenes. The most significant of them are now part of the Game of Thrones Tour, an interesting and enriching tour at the Real Alcázar or Casa Martell.
Beat the cold weather with tapas and a drink
Yes, it is true that in Seville winter isn’t as severe as other cities. However, you can still feel the cold as you walk through the streets. This is why we suggest that you pay a visit to the centre of Seville and sample the best tapas and, why not accompany it with a glass of wine from the region (but drink in moderation!). This is an always recommended activity in Seville and you can stay in the strategically located Hostel Central Sevilla and Hostel Urban Sevilla.
A marathon challenge
The tours, exhibitions, shows and tapas are very interesting things to do on any trip to Seville. But would you like to add some competitiveness and excitement to your visit to the capital of Guadalquivir? Try enrolling in the Half Marathon in Seville, the official race of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation. It will be held on Sunday, January 26th.
For the most sporty travellers, it can be a unique opportunity to enjoy Seville in a different way. If you see yourself with enough courage to complete the 21 km race, don’t wait any longer. The numbers will be collected on January 24th and 25th at the EXPO RUNNING, which will be held at the San Pablo Sports Centre. And if this race is too short for you, the full Marathon will arrive in February …
