What to do in Seville in September: 8 inviting activities

The end of August is seen by many as the end of summer. However, you would instantly change your mind when you discover the variety of exciting activities offered by a city like Seville during the month of September. Music, exhibitions, outdoor events, gastronomy, traditions …, the Andalusian capital offers lots of things to do for all audiences and tastes, among which we have prepared the following selection of activity recommendations.

1. September is the month of flamenco

This event is celebrated every two years, which means that there will be a new edition in 2019. Those visiting Seville shouldn’t miss out on the interesting flamenco shows that will be held between September 8th and 20th. Some of the most typical venues for hosting this event are the Torre de Don Fadrique, the Real Alcazar, the Lope de Vega Theatre and the Maestranza Theatre. The last venue, for example, is just fifteen minutes walk from the Urban Sevilla Hostel.

2. Nights in the Gardens of Real Alcazar

Summer does not end on August 31st. In fact, judging by the pleasant temperatures, in the Spanish city of Seville, it lasts throughout the month of September and much of October. That is why some of these summer programmes take place in the ninth month of the year, such as the musical Nights in the Gardens of the Real Alcazar. The concerts include classical, popular, ethnic and flamenco music among other genres.

3. The best artists and bands

Why not take advantage of a visit to Seville to enjoy a concert by an artist or a top band? In September, performances by David Bisbal, David Bustamante, Ara Malikian, El Arrebato, Camela and Vanesa Martín are just a few options to enjoy. On September 14th, the concert of the radio programme, «Yo fui a EGB» or «I went to EGB», which has reaped great success in other cities, will also be held.

4. The Aquarium of Seville never disappoints

A visit to the Aquarium of Seville should not be left out of any family trip. The Aquarium facilities have more than 4,000 species of animals and allow you to take an interesting tour of the most characteristic fauna from different corners of the world. In fact, visitors can get access to the themed sections dedicated to Guadalquivir, the Atlantic, the tropical environments and explore the depths of the Indian and Pacific oceans.

5. Andalusia Sabor (flavour)

This event will only be available for three days (between September 23rd and 25th) but it can become one of the most delicious experiences of your trip. Andalucía Sabor (flavour) is a regional programme that aims to gather together companies and professionals in the vast Andalusian agri-food sector. Of course, the general public can also enjoy the most innovative versions of very traditional dishes and numerous tastings of products from the region. There are also very interesting workshops, conferences and exhibitions to get to know the excellent Andalusian cuisine at Seville’s Fibes Palace of Conference and Exhibition Centre.

6. The San Miguel Fair

Seville is world famous not just for flamenco but also for its bullfighting, and the San Miguel Fair is the main bullfighting event in September. The shows are scheduled between September 27th and 29th and, for the moment, the participation of Morante de la Puebla and «El Juli» among other bullfighters has been confirmed. If you want to learn a little more about the history of bullfighting without attending the show, the Bullfighting Museum is also open during those days. It should be noted that the Plaza de Toros de La Maestranza can be reached by taking a pleasant ten-minute walk from the Urban Sevilla Hostel.

7. The Festival of Nations

The Festival of Nations is an open-air stage that brings together the best and most often unknown cultures to different Spanish cities, always with a show of solidarity. Seville will host this festival between September 20th and November 3rd. The event will be taking place in the surroundings of Prado de San Sebastián, just over twenty minutes walk from Urban Sevilla Hostel.

8. The end-of-summer cinema

To conclude this brief collection of activities, what better way to end the day than to enjoy a good movie. The Summer Cinema show at the Diputación de Sevilla will hold its latest daily screenings between September 1st and 9th. As always, the tickets will be very affordable (4 euros) and the billboard includes some of the most recent films, such as Rocketman, Yesterday, and the Father. All this can be enjoyed in the courtyard of the Diputación de Sevilla.
